These ministers proclaim the Word of God at Sunday Mass. A monthly rota is drawn up to cover the various Sunday Masses.
These ministers help distribute Holy Communion to Parishioners during Mass and to the sick and housebound.
The choir sings at 6.00 pm Mass on Saturday evening. If you are interested in joining the parish choir, please contact the parish office.
Altar servers assist at Sunday Mass and occasionally during other special Liturgies.The commitment of boys and girls is greatly appreciated and more volunteers would be especially welcome. There are also adult servers who participate weekly at the 5.00 pm Sunday Mass and during the Easter Ceremonies.
The Pastoral Council identifies the needs that exist in the parish community. It also identifies the gifts and abilities that exist among the parishioners. The Pastoral Council then invites the parishioners to use their gifts and abilities to respond to the needs that have been identified. Its role therefore is to help parishioners create a living community of faith centred on the person of Jesus Christ where all people are accepted, made welcome and called to new life in the Holy Spirit.
This committee oversees the finances of the Parish and offers financial guidance and support to the Parish Priest.
Created to organise and coordinate fund raising events to pay for the cost of the refurbishment of the Church. The committee meets every three months.
This group meets on Monday evening. It organises the weekly Parish lotto and makes the draw.
St Malachy's Safeguarding Committee exists to ensure that children, young people and vulnerable adults can engage safely in parish activities and on parish premises, and that those who work with them are aware of, and conform to, the best practice in safeguarding, as set out in the Down and Connor safeguarding 'Policy and Procedures'. This team aims to help the bereaved and grieving. The members have all experienced grief and loss in their own lives. They are trained to listen with understanding and empathy to those who are grieving. If you would like to contact the team, call the parish office.
The Baptism Preparation Team operates in the Parish to help families prepare for the Baptism of their children. Parents requesting Baptism must attend a meeting in the parish centre in preparation for the celebration of the Sacrament. The St Malachy’s group meets weekly on Tuesday evening in the parochial house. Any parishioner interested in becoming a member please contact the Parish Office.
This group is responsible for the Altar linens & general care of the Sanctuary area of the Church. This involves the cleaning and laundry of vestments & linen, flower arranging etc. If you would like to help, please contact the Parish Office.
A group of women usually meets on Wednesday mornings and more often when needed to clean the Church. Anyone interested in helping would be welcome. Please contact the Parish office for details.
Saint Malachy’s Parish has a number of volunteers who help in the collecting and counting of monies. These include;· Collectors of the weekly, monthly and special collections at Mass· St Vincent de Paul collectors who operate after Mass· Those who sell tickets and count the Parish lotto sales after Mass· The counters of the weekly, monthly and special collections
Members of The Legion of Mary meet in the Presbytery each Tuesday evening at 5.15pm. They also carry out visitation of homes in the Parish during the week. If you are interested in becoming a member please contact the Parish Office.
he Ministry of Hospitality is delivered in a number of ways. · Volunteers provide refreshments following services and events organised in the Church or in the adjoining Parish centre· Ushers welcome parishioners coming into the Church and guide them towards a seat.
